Double winter Paralympic skiing athlete Anna Turney presented achievement awards to students from Aylesbury College in a ceremony at Waddesdon Manor.
Over 17 awards representing each college course area recognised outstanding student success during the 2013/14 academic year for all round achievement, teamwork and accomplishment in the face of adversity.
Winners of the awards were nominated by their tutors and curriculum managers.
Ms Turney said: “What an honour it was to meet these high achieving young people. Well done to all the winners, they were truly inspiring.”
Kirsty Wheatley won the overall ‘Student of the Year Award’.
She was selected because of her sustained energy and effort over three years, as well as always exceeding expectations.
While on work experience, her tutors commented on her fantastic attitude, her ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and colleagues and her willingness to carry out any task.
Kirsty, who is pictured far left, said: “I feel very privileged to have won not only the ‘Student of the Year for Health & Early Years’ but to have won the ‘Overall Student of the Year Award’.
“I have really liked going to Aylesbury College and would like to thank all of my tutors who have supported me.
“The awards evening was very special and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.”
Having completed her course, Kirsty will be starting work in a nursery at the end of June.
