Publicity stunt for Civic Centre show, Market Square, 1976

Last week we featured police officers covering up a topless model in the town centre – but the PR stunt for a show at the Civic Centre also involved this baby elephant.

The animal was brought down to Market Square and immediately began to get a little over-friendly with some of the locals.

It was all in the name of publicity for the production of the play, A Thousand Clowns, which was being staged at the Civic Centre.
