A brand new games area which cost nearly £40,000 is now officially open for youngsters to use.
The multi-use games area – or MUGA as it is known – is aimed at children who want to play sport, practice or meet with friends.
Sports such as football and basketball can be played at the facility on Dunsham Lane, Aylesbury, all year round without the need to book. The new MUGA was funded using section 106 money secured from housing developers by Aylesbury Vale District Council.
AVDC chairman Cllr Michael Rand cut the ribbon to officially open the facility. Following the opening, youngsters were given the opportunity to take part in free coached cricket sessions.
Aylesbury Vale District Council’s cabinet member for leisure Cllr Howard Mordue said: “The new MUGA will provide a sports area that will help encourage young people to engage in physical activity and help them to lead healthier lifestyles.
“The facility will give young people the chance to enjoy sports and parks facilities where they live and we hope that the facility will be enjoyed by the community for many years to come.”
