Mango fails in 24-hour licence bid.

An Aylesbury town centre bar has failed in its application for a late licence.

In a meeting yesterday (Monday, October 5) Aylesbury Vale District Council rejected the bid in full.

Mango, on Silver Street, was applying for a licence which would allow them to serve alcohol until 6am.

Police and Aylesbury Town Council both lodged objections to the application and the AVDC committee decided it would be contrary to current licensing policy and in particular the town centre saturation policy.

Residents insist they already experience unacceptable levels of noise and a later licence will mean they are disturbed even later at night.

Police believe the introduction of late licences has not reduced crime and violence and, in fact, may have made the problem worse.

Kyle Michael, proprietor , said he believed the use of the licensing policy in the decision was unfair and stated his intention to appeal.
