Major Aylesbury road to be dug up for 16 weeks
A major town centre road is to be dug up to make way for a pedestrian crossing.
Restrictions will be in place on Exchange Streeet for 16 weeks so that the crossing can be put in place as part of the Waterside regeneration project.
However, Aylesbury Vale District Council has said it will not start the work until the Horse and Jockey junction is open and fully functioning again.
The crossing will sit half way between the two that are currently on the road close to the entrance of the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.
Work has to take place on the road to widen it and is expected to take 16 weeks.
It will form part of a 3.5 million project which includes a public square, landscaping and external works to the theatre, minor re-alignment and improvement to the banks of the Bearbrook and work on the Grand Union Canal.
A report to AVDC's cabinet to be held on Tuesday night says: "These works are fundamental to the preparation for the development of Waterside and provide the civic hub for the individual schemes.
"A bid for the use of 2.5 million of growth funding has been submitted to the board of Aylesbury Vale Advantage and will be considered by their board in February."
It is expected that the outcome of that bid will be reported at full council on April 28.
Do you think this will bring more congestion misery to the town?
