World’s largest atlas makes Aylesbury mum a record breaker
Leanne Kelman worked on the worlds largest Atlas
AN AYLESBURY mum has appeared in the Guinness Book of Records after having a hand in creating the world’s biggest atlas.
Leanne Kelman, 38, of Hambledon Close, is just one of 88 cartographers worldwide to have been involved in the record-breaking project to create the Earth Platinum map, published last week.
The book, measuring 1.8 metres high by 1.4 metres wide, is as rare as it is valuable with just 31 copies having been printed worldwide by Australian publishing firm, Millennium House.
Freelance cartographer Leanne became involved in the project in the final months, carrying out amendments to the documents and improving its presentation.
“I worked on the atlas in the last three or four months, adding detail and making the documents look pretty before they were published,” said the mother-of-one.

“I became involved in the project by contacting Millennium House about possible work and they came back having seen my website and CV and said they’d be very interested in working with me.
“And it just went from there really – I didn’t really realise the extent of the project until nearer the end.
“It’s something that I am very proud to have been involved in – it’s something quite amazing.
“I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d do something that would appear in the Guinness World Records.”
Millenium House says its aim in producing Earth Platinum, now on sale for $100,000, was ‘to create a benchmark in cartography and to leave a legacy for future generations’, as the atlas shows the world in as much detail as was possible at the time of publication.
More than 100 experts involved in the project, including 24 photographers, 88 cartographers, computer programmers, oceanographers, engineers and a shipwreck expert who has located the exact position of wrecks worldwide.
