Work starts on repairing town bridge

WORKS are due to begin on Wednesday on Stoke Road Railway Bridge in Aylesbury.

Bucks County Council will be carrying out temporary road repairs over the Chiltern Railway lines on Stoke Road, with work finished by Friday.

Work involves the removal of defective area of anti-skid material on the bridge and replacing it.

Previous attempts to repair the area have been hindered by the cold weather.

Further permanent repair work is scheduled for later on in the year.

A section of Stoke Road will have to be controlled by temporary ‘Stop and Go’ boards to provide alternate one-way traffic flow during off-peak hours, between 9.30am-3.30pm, to ensure the works are carried out safely.

Stoke, like everything else in this town, built to last a lifetime (if you are a Mayfly). . . . . Aqua Vale, 10 yrs old & has to have a very expensive revamp. Waterside, barely past its first birthday & it looks old & tired & bits keep dropping off. Information centre - open\closed???? who knows. Kingsbury water clock - why is it called a clock? If you painted a pair of hands on it it would be just as accurate. Bridge on the Oxford road by the college - again, not a very old piece of work and yet it's been dug up already. AVDC's own modern office suite - another dated & scabby looking building.

If I had a tenner for every time that bridge has been repaired in the last 10 years I would be on holiday in Las Vegas right now!

they cant repair it properly there is a few more years money to be milked out of the bridge yet, like all road works in Aylesbury ,you dont want to kill the cash cow. that bridge is a very sore sight and gives a very bad immpresion on one of the major routes into town, it always reminds me of tempory bridges the Army erects to move there transport across rivers ETC, I have neverknown a town like Aylesbury for the never ending road works , I think the planners are not fit for purpose

The bridge looks like it's been in a state of temporary repairs for over 10 years. It never USED to look like a bodge job... So a temporary repair to cover up a temporary repair eh?

So why are BCC carrying out "temporary road repairs"? why not do the job properley and make the repairs permanent, probably at a fraction of the cost.

I was just thinking that the road system was working resonably OK at the moment
