A young father of three whose family was targeted by thieves shortly after his death died from a drugs overdose, an inquest has heard.

Levels of cocaine similar to those found in someone who had swallowed an entire sachet of the drug were found in Thomas Pearson’s blood.

Mr Pearson, 22, of Fuggle Drive, Aylesbury, spent the day before his death with friends.

His partner, Sinead Gray, woke early on June 20 to find their house in ‘chaos’, as if Mr Pearson had been ransacking it.

Mr Pearson was described as being ‘sweaty’, ‘panicky’ and ‘paranoid’ and felt he was in danger, saying things like ‘they’re after me’.

His partner went outside to show Mr Pearson there was no one there, but when she came back into the house he had collapsed on the sofa and stopped breathing.

Emergency services were called but he could not be saved.

His mother, Sharon Pearson, said she hopes people take note of what happened and think twice before taking drugs.

She described Mr Pearson as a ‘doting’ son and said: “His children are going to grow up with no dad now. Do other families want that?

“I hope no other mother has to go through what I have gone through. We have got to try and pick up the pieces now.”

Coroner Richard Hulett, who returned a verdict of misadventure, said it appeared Mr Pearson took the drugs deliberately, but there was no reason to think he had taken them intending to die.

Mr Pearson was known to take drugs recreationally and socially, but on this occasion took a large amount of cocaine.

Mr Hulett said: “How that came about nobody can tell me, and I don’t think anybody will know.”

Mr Pearson is believed to have entered a state of cocaine psychosis, which led to him having spasms and fitting before his heart stopped.

Ms Gray and Mr Pearson’s three young children moved out of their home immediately after he died, but on returning found two televisions had been stolen.

Mr Pearson’s mother said it appeared the family had been targeted and described the theft as ‘sick and disgusting’.
