Waste collections on upward curve but 232 collections still missed across Aylesbury Vale
The number of bin collections being missed by Aylesbury Vale District Council under the new waste and recycling system is falling, but scores of people continue to call the waste hotline for information.
Last week 232 collections were missed, out of 74,000 homes, with the council getting ‘one or two’ calls a day about people who have not had their new bins delivered yet.
Between Monday and Friday last week, 1,752 calls were made to the waste hotline, 1,566 of which were answered.
In the seven weeks since the new system came in, the amount of recycling collected has more than doubled compared to the same time last year. On average, more than 340 tonnes of recycling and 125 tonnes of food waste now no longer goes to landfill.
In the first four weeks of the scheme, the food waste collected alone generated enough electricity to power 52 homes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
