editorial image

A lorry and 25 tonnes of straw bales caught fire on the A41 near Aston Clinton last night (Thursday).

Several fire crews were called to the incident at 7.14pm.

The road was immediately closed travelling both ways and remained so this morning (Friday) causing gridlock for drivers.

Transport for Bucks says the road is not expected to re-open until tomorrow (September 8) evening.

However, the single carriageway on Aston Clinton Road has now been opened to relieve some of the traffic. Delays for commuters are still expected though. .

Fire services on the A41 are still awaiting to declare the site safe.

The fire occurred close to the roundabout as the lorry entered the A41 bypass.

It is likely that the road will need resurfacing due to extensive damage.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Relief crews from Aylesbury and Amersham are still at the scene.

There are traffic diversions in place at Aston Clinton Road and Tring Hill.

The incident has caused long delays for commuters travelling in and around Aylesbury.

There were queues through Aylesbury, Aston Clinton, Weston Turville and elsewhere, as police diverted traffic away from the A41.

As a result of the road closure roadworks in Chesham have been postponed.
