Proposals to build a university technical college are likely to be granted approval at a council meeting on Friday.

The Bucks University Technical College is due to open its doors to its first intake of 14 and 16 year olds in September 2013.

Council officers have been recommended to approve the plans at a committee meeting, which will see the 5,400 sq metre university located on the same site as Aylesbury College.

The £10.4 million university will specialise in ICT and construction and will hold 600 students at its maximum capacity in 2016.

As the university operates between 8.30am and 5.30pm, there are fears for those who use Oxford Road as it will increase traffic further during peak times.

Further survey work has been requested and mitigation measures are being considered as to how to deal with the likely increase in traffic.

However, the report states that the proposed university should be recognised as a ‘beneficial addition to the spectrum of educational opportunities available in the town’.

The college would be one of 13 to be introduced in the UK this year and would work with partners such as McAfee, ESRI and Cisco.
