Olympic volunteers are being encouraged to embrace charity work in the Vale by a council boss.

Aylesbury Vale District Council cabinet member Brian Roberts said: “Without the volunteers the success we had would not of happened.

“They really showed the true British spirit and they always had a smile on their faces.”

Mr Roberts added he was looking into ways of how the volunteers, ‘if they are willing’, could become involved in various charitable projects in the Vale.

“There’s so much going on with the legacy. These guys could talk to kids in schools about what went on and their satisfaction with volunteering.

“If they are willing to use the Olympic uniform so they can be recognisable, even better. It’s too good an opportunity to miss.”

Mr Roberts was keen to stress that plans remained at an early stage but that he would be ‘certainly speaking to cabinet about it’.

He also added the council was thinking of ways of bringing all the Vale volunteers together to celebrate their contributions.

Mr Roberts said: “We’re looking at ways to say thank you. We have even got staff at the council who were there.”
