‘Standards continue to increase’: Three cheers for 40 years of the Good Beer Guide
Chiltern Brewery Ruby Ale For CAMRA's 40th Good Beer Guide L-R Richard Jenkinson David Lidington MP, Roger Protz (Editor of the Good Beer Guide) Tom Jenkinson, George Jenkinson,
A brewery has celebrated the 40th edition of a good beer guide by producing a one-off ale.
Chiltern Brewery made the Ruby Anniversary Ale to mark the launch of the Campaign for Real Ale’s Good Beer Guide.
Head brewer Tom Jenkinson said he was delighted to be the only brewery approached to celebrate the occasion.
He said: “I have taken my inspiration from the history of brewing, using ingredients both ancient and modern to create a fabulously rich Ruby Anniversary Ale.”
Mr Jenkinson worked on the beer with editor of the guide, Roger Protz.
Chairman of the beer guide’s Aylesbury Vale and Wycombe branch Alexander Wright said: “Choosing pubs to be included in the guide gets harder every year, as standards continue to increase. We are very lucky to have such fine pubs and breweries in our local area. With pubs such as The Russell (in Butlers Cross) being bought by locals and serving local ales there has never been a better time to visit your pub.”
The 2013 guide contains 4,500 outstanding pubs, with 54 of them in Bucks.
The area has also added two new breweries to the guide including the award winning XT, based at Notley Farm, Long Crendon.
Pubs in the guide include:
Aylesbury: The Hop Pole and King’s Head
Brill: Pheasant
Haddenham: Rising Sun
Marsworth: Red Lion
Quainton: George & Dragon
Wendover: King & Queen and Pack Horse
