Staff fear job losses with Comet set for administration
Staff at Aylesbury’s electrical retailer, Comet, have been left in limbo after it confirmed it will enter administration next week.
The company, which has 240 stores nationwide, has not said whether the shop at Cambridge Retail Park or the delivery depot on Gatehouse Way will close.
Comet becomes the 29th high street retailer to go into administration this year.
The administration is being handled by restructuring firm Deloitte and 6,500 jobs are expected to be put at risk.
The company said: “Comet Group Limited can confirm that it has today taken steps to seek the protection of the court with a view to the company entering into administration during week commencing 5th November 2012.
“In the meantime, the board is urgently working with its advisers to seek a solution to secure a viable future for the company.”
