Shop owner praises staff after robber uses ‘gun’ to hold up Aylesbury Spar
Terrified staff were left ‘shaken and upset’ after a man brandished what appeared to be a gun to rob an Aylesbury shop.
The man entered the Meadow Way Spar with what police believe was a hand gun, took a member of staff by the arm and marched her to the back office.
He demanded to know the location of the store’s safe, but after he was unsuccessful he grabbed £30 from the till and ran off.
Shop owner Peter Sichel said members of staff on duty were ‘magnificent’ and did as they were trained to do.
Mr Sichel said: “My staff were superb.
“They did what they had to do and stayed calm.
“I am delighted that nobody was hurt. They were a little bit shaken up but no worse.”
Mr Sichel said one member of staff had taken a day off following the incident but another had come straight back to work.
He said: “They were probably more angry about it than anything else.
“We are a tough breed in Aylesbury.
“I talked to a colleague who said something like this has happened to them before, and you take it in your stride and just carry on.”
Mr Sichel appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
The incident took place at around 9.45pm on August 19.
The man was white, between 19 and 35 years old, of slim to medium build, and had the majority of his face covered. He was wearing black and was carrying a dark bag.
Investigator Jo Simmons said: “This was a frightening incident for the staff involved and they have been left shaken and upset.
“A number of lines of inquiry are under way, including studying CCTV.
“I am very keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and saw the man acting suspiciously outside the shop, or has any information about who is responsible for this robbery.”
