Roads to be inspected by county councillors before they decide which ones to repair

Roads around Bucks will be inspected by county councillors before they vote on which ones they think should be serviced.

Members will be bused around the county and it will be explained to them how much it costs to repair roads in different states of deterioration.

It is hoped this will mean councillors can make more informed decisions when prioritising roads to be serviced.

After viewing the roads, councillors will each selected five they think should be repaired.

Bucks County Councillor Peter Hardy, cabinet member for planning and transport, said: “Once roads get past a certain point it’s expensive to treat them.

“We will be looking at different levels of deterioration.

“We have still got a lot of money to put into the roads and we have got to do it in the most effective way.

“Doing it this way will hopefully cost less in the long term.”
