Prince Andrew visits Aylesbury College campus

The new pioneering £10m Bucks University Technical College received Royal support during a visit from Prince Andrew to Aylesbury.

His Royal Highness The Duke of York was in town for lunch as part of his ongoing focus on the country’s new University Technical Colleges.

The college, due to open in six months’ time, is one of only 12 planned across the country which will cater for 14-19 year olds and revolutionise further education.

The Prince met with local dignitaries, business leaders and partners as well as students who will be starting their education with Bucks UTC in September.

Beverley Flanagan, principal of Bucks UTC, said: “We know The Duke of York is keen to lend his support and encouragement to young people and their routes to employment.

“I was delighted to update His Royal Highness on the progress of our exciting new campus and the excellent relationships and ‘live’ work projects formed with our employer partners.”

Twenty-one employers are already signed up to provide ‘hands-on’ projects for the students. Course curriculums have been designed in partnership with Taylor Wimpey, Cisco, Esri UK and McAfee, bringing their industry expertise together to give students valuable work-related experience.

Pauline Odulinski, principal of Aylesbury College, said: ‘The opening of the UTC next to our college is another step in creating an integrated learning campus.

“We can now offer customers from the nursery to retirement a whole range of courses supported by local employers as well as a route to higher education through our links with Bucks New University.”

Bucks UTC is recruiting students aged from 14 to 19 for its construction and IT courses.
