Police thank the public for their ‘support and contribution’ as burglars are locked up and crime rates drop

Police have hailed ‘significant’ crime results as the number of recorded incidents in Aylesbury Vale during a four-month period fell compared to last year.
The number of incidents in April to July 2012 was 6.5% down on the same time in 2011, with 116 crimes this year compared to 124 last.
Police have been particularly pleased with the drop in burglary rates, with 166 non-dwelling burglaries compared to 215 last year and 107 dwelling burglaries compared to 113 in the same period last year.
Since April 1, the total period of sentencing for burglary in the Vale has been 10 years and four months in prison.
Chief Inspector Olly Wright, Aylesbury deputy commander, said: “Tackling burglary is a real priority for us because of the impact it has on the victims.
“These significant crime results have been brought about through some excellent police work and cooperation with the local community. I would like to thank the public for providing crucial information which has assisted in putting these offenders in prison.”
As a result of the work, a number of criminals have recently been put behind bars.
On July 31, 26-year-old Samuel Cuthbert was sentenced to three years and three months in prison for three burglaries in the Haddenham and Princes Risborough area.
Matthew Cousins, 37, received an eight-month custodial sentence after pleading guilty on August 31, to attempted burglary and theft at a Highbridge Road, Aylesbury, house. He was also found guilty of a theft in Leach Road and causing criminal damage to a window in Penn Road, both on May 5.
Meanwhile, on July 19, Joby Wells and Stuart Pettigrew, both 29, were sentenced to 20 and 26 weeks respectively for being jointly involved in a burglary on May 24 in Broughton Lane, Aylesbury, when they broke into a shed and took a ride on a motorised lawn mower.
Sergeant Gavin Biggs thanked people for their ‘support and contribution’ towards tackling crime.
