Police arrest four in car wash raid

FOUR illegal immigrants have been arrested at an Aylesbury car wash.
Officers arrested the Pakistani men from Pitstop Hand Car Wash on Gatehouse Way after the UK Border Agency received intelligence reports.
Out of the four men who were detained pending deportation, three had entered the UK illegally, while the other overstayed his visa.
Owner of Pitstop Mohammed Rehman, who has run the car wash for around seven years, said all his staff must undergo rigorous checks before they may be employed by the company.
He said: “I’m really gutted that all this has happened.
“We had around six police cars come over, two vans and a police helicopter - it was really quite frightening.
“The police were actually very swift - it only took around 45 minutes, and they were very civil.”
The Border Agency has said the owner of the car wash could now face a fine of up to £40,000 - £10,000 per illegal worker - for employing the men, unless he can prove that the correct right-to-work checks were carried out.
Assistant director of the UK Border Agency, Paul Smith, said: “This is the latest in a series of enforcement operations.
“We’re happy to work with businesses to explain the checks they are legally required to do on staff, but those who don’t carry out these checks should know that we are out there looking for them and they will face heavy fines.”
