Play area plan ‘in best place we could find’

A BID to open a soft play area in Aylesbury’s Broadfields Business Park has been lodged.

The application, for Unit 5 of Millennium Point, says the business will cater for youngsters aged up to 12.

An application document submitted to planners at Aylesbury Vale District Council states: “The facility will be available for children’s parties and pay and play sessions.

“Use by children with special needs has been considered in the development plan for this project.

“It is also expected that in addition to providing a venue for the entertainment of children and their families, significant use of the facility will be made by single parents with pre-school age children.”

It said that the unit was chosen because no similar premises could be found closer to Aylesbury town centre.

The document states: “Their search concluded that the unit selected is the most appropriate, having regard to the relevant factors.”

If feel that this would be a great thing for Aylesbury especially the location, Sadly having read the applications and bits on the AVDC website I think the planning has been withdrawn due to lack of parking available. Its a big shame, I do hope the guy does reconsider and find alternative unit, to do this. Zoomaina I feel has past it, having been there its limited on parking, it has not changed at all, the management is hardly ever there, it is tired in need of painting, in need of some new ideas to take it forward... sadly im not seeing that at all since the take over. I feel if this planning re-surfaces I feel this would be good for Aylesbury.

As a parent of 2, my children loved Lynx but when they get to 5 it becomes expensive with annual and weeklymonthly fees. My kids outgrew Zoomania at young age too and the staff were not very helpful or look like they want to be there most of the time. This new venue hopefully will not cook all their food in grease and stop the smell outside the building being quite off putting! I would like to see another place for children to go to and hope it will cater for the slightly older children too as this has a huge gap in the market that needs filling. Also another placer for children to run around in can only be good for them. We are losing the Bowling Alley and many of our shops so think this will help employment and encourage people to our town and to use the close facilities at the same time. Thumbs up from me xx

@amused mum, Hey - don't criticize me with your interpretation of what I said. You have NO idea how well I supervise my kids - coffee or not! There are play areas that are fully supervised and just because this news report DOESN'T mention whether it will be supervised or not, DON'T go jumping to conclusions. @RJP you obviously don't worry too much about hot drinks if you keep taking your kids to Zoomania. For gods sake - no one has ANY details about how this place will be run, I'm sure it will abide by all current H&S Regs and that the staff will be fully trained etc so don't get your knickers in a twist about how other parents want to behave with regard to their children when visiting this type of play area. I'll be there on opening day, so take a chill-pill and try it when it opens - you may be pleasantly surprised....

I used to take my kids to Kidzone & was astounded at the number of parents who ran in with a load of kids, paid for them & then left to go ??? Leaving staff with a huge headache as they are not set up to supervise kids.

@amused mum fully agree. It is one of the problems these places have, parents forget all about their kids while they have a coffee and gossip and no supervision takes place, leaving their kids to run riot. They will then be the first to complain and criticise the place when their child hurts themselves or another. I also believe it should also be a rule that no hot drinks should be carried where kids are running around. This happens a lot at Zoomania.

@dazzyd - Where in the article does it say the children will be supervised by the staff, these sort of places do not supervise the kids while the parents relax and have a coffee, its your responsibility to look after your children !!

As a frequent shopping visitor to Aylesbury, somewhere close to Tesco for me to take the kids during the weekly shop will be excellent - no more fighting over who pushes the trolley... Having used similar play areas in MK, the kids love these jungle gym-type play areas and I get to relax with a coffee knowing they're fully supervised by the staff:) And there is always plenty of parking close to where I believe it's going to be sited, so more fighting for a parking space! I can't wait for it to open!

I Use both these facilities with my children, and both are great and more importantly the kids love them. Zoomainia could do with a clean more often, but kids don’t see that only the parents. Let’s not forget in these tough times Zoomania is a hard working local business with an unfortunate location. If more of the visiting parents could drive properly, there wouldn’t be such an issue with parking. My concern is can Aylesbury make use of two soft play centres? Or will this be the demise of an existing one or will the new one fail or both? They are not that far apart. Not many people want to part with their money at the moment and look at free alternatives for their children. The nature of the soft play business means a large warehouse style unit is needed and with that the running costs are massive, hence the need to charge a hefty entrance fee and bump up the prices of refreshments.

Also what is with tis website, I sometimes a bunch of school kids could do a better job! Looking at this photo it is a charity event at a Asda store with the staff dressed up! Good old google images search!,

I meant to say it was a 45ft artic reversing and turning around into their parking area at one of the busiest times! It's just mayhem and I think the business is complacent and some competition will do them good

At last maybe a thought out idea that will bring a great new service to the community!! I echo the comments of the previous contributor to this post that Lynx is not a kids play area but it does provide a great venue for the locality. As for Zoomania its like a Zoo when you try and park with the arguments from parents, local businesses and customers all fighting over a limited number of spaces. This I for one think will be a fantastic addition to Aylesbury and will hopefully mean the drive to Thame will be a thing of the past! Let's hope it gets up and running fast so I can get my son's birthday party booked up for the summer!!

I think this application should be accepted. Good transportation links with the town center, and much closer for the walkers. More choice for those that require these services, and in these hard economical times, with businesses closing down, it's good to see some starting up and offering much needed services.

Mmm zoomania well there's a place I never hear anyone praising too much, extremely expensive fooddrinks and got a captive audience, the lynx is not really competition and I know know a lot of people are going to a place in Thame called whizz kids or similar, also the parking is outrageously dangerous at and last week half term which must be one of the busiest time a 45 so yes accept the application a much better location!

Although the formentioned providers are good, it sounds as though this new bid is trying to provide a greater range of facilities all in one place. I agree that the roads are busy, however, maybe this development would ensure that something is done about it rather than it stay as the serious concern you have highlighted.
