Pitsone and Ivinghoe, December 19
SHEPHERDS AND ANGELS STILL NEEDED. A reminder that there are vacancies for shepherds and angels at St Mary's Church, Ivinghoe with Pitstone's nativity service at 3pm on Christmas Eve, Monday December 24.
"Just turn up on the day, no previous experience necessary, although you will be required to provide your own costume," said Vicar Tracey Doyle.
"Shepherds and angels are not required to say anything and there is no limit to how many we may have for this special event." For more information, contact Tracey on 01296 668260.
VILLAGERS SING OUT. Pitstone residents Jessica Avery, Chris and Dave Sivers, Eve and Melissa Smellie and Charles Thorogood took part in the Aldbury Singers' Christmas Concert in St John the Baptist Church, Aldbury on Sunday December 9. The choir got its audience in the festive spirit with some traditional carols, some newer ones, including some by Peter Skellern, and there were opportunities for audience participation. There was also festive music by The South Heath Wind Quintet.
FESTIVAL FEARS:. There are fears that Pitstone Church's annual Spring Festival of Crafts and Flowers may fold after organisers Mike and Jean announced that they are unable to continue managing the event. "There is a very capable festival committee in place, but it needs a person or couple to take overall charge." Anyone who feels able to assume this role and save the festival after 27 years should contact Mike or Jean on 01296 661544 for more details.
PTA NEWS. Brookmead School PTA's new committee is: Rose Hearn, Anne-Marie Henry, Stephanie Murrell, Jackie Reynolds and Alistair Napier (joint chairs), Emma Burton (vice-chair), Martin Wilson (treasurer), Carolyn Wright (secretariat), and Jenny Craft, Kim Stratford and Michelle Webb (teacher representatives).
The PTA always needs new volunteers, and anyone interested in joining the team should speak to a committee member, or call in at school reception. The PTA meets every month, and the next meeting at is at 8pm on January 24 in the school staff room.
Each year the committee considers requests from the school for PTA funding and his year they are aiming to provide an interactive white board for the art room, replenish art room supplies, replace cookery room utensils, replace geography globes and purchase a number of children's digital cameras.
The autumn term has been one of the most successful the PTA has ever experienced, and in just three months it has raised over 3,500. Termly textile recycling raised 215 – thanks to everyone who brought in bags and for those who helped load the van.
Eleven teams attended the annual quiz night in November and raised a record 390 and, with support from the HBoS group's matching scheme, these funds will swell by a further 423. Some of the children have been busy designing personalised Christmas cards and this has raised 47. The Christmas Fayre was the biggest fundraiser of the year, raising an incredible 2,000, with a further 500 due from the Royal Mail matching scheme.
