Nursery worker dreaming of life on the catwalk
Amrita Kaur
An aspiring model is hoping she can fulfil her dreams and embark on a glitzy career treading the catwalk.
Amrita Kaur, 17, is competing against 20 other finalists in the first Fresh Photographic qualifiers, which could lead to a place in the Miss England contest.
Miss Kaur, who is a nursery nurse apprentice at Bright Start in Fairford Leys, said: “I hope to make a future in modelling.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love child care, but modelling is one of my dreams.
“I want to become really big like Kate Moss. I didn’t think I would even get this far.”
Miss Kaur said it was her mum who got her interested in modelling.
“She’s really proud of me. I’ve always been close to my mum. She’s been behind it all throughout.”
Miss Kaur, who suffers from dyslexia and dyscalculia, said she has previously struggled with low confidence after being bullied for struggling at school.
“When I was younger it was hard for me because I was picked on and called names.
“It started when I was around 10 and continued through secondary school.
Miss Kaur, who lives near Haydon Hill, said she was shy about revealing her success to colleagues at Bright Start and they did not even know about her modelling until she appeared in The Bucks Herald recently.
She added: “I didn’t really tell anyone about it. But they have been really proud of me, I never expected it, really.”
The former Princes Risborough School pupil entered competitions when she was younger but said she has become more interested in the past year .
If Miss Kaur wins the first heat, she will seal a place in the Miss England semi-final next June, a beauty pageant training day with The Front Academy and an A4 print for her portfolio.
