Norovirus strikes again: Hospital now tells visitors to stay away

The norovirus bug is continuing to linger at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with visitor access to all wards restricted for the next 72 hours.

The bug which causes diarrhoea and vomiting first started affecting people in November and has led to the Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, advising patients to stay away in some cases.

The trust said: “We will try to contact a patient’s next of kin to inform them of these restrictions in advance, but if you are unsure please check before visiting by calling the appropriate ward. In exceptional circumstances we may permit a visitor attending a ward providing they contact that ward in advance.”

The trust said if patients due to attend the hospital have had any norovirus symptoms in the last 48 hours then they should try to rearrange their appointment or stay.

Medical advice for those with norovirus is to rest at home, avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of fluids and eat foods such as rice, soup, pasta or bread, which are easy to digest.
