Police and forensics at the scene of Jean Dunson's murder

A man who stabbed his wife to death with a samurai sword and a kitchen knife has been jailed for life.

Robert Dunson, 54, has been found guilty of murdering his wife Jean while she lay in bed at their Bicester Road home in Aylesbury on May 4 last year.

The former bookmaker’s manager was jailed for life at Reading Crown Court on Friday and told he must serve a minimum of 17 years before he is eligible for parole.

The court heard that Dunson drank a litre of brandy before entering his wife Jean’s bedroom and plunging a Samurai sword and a kitchen knife repeatedly into her throat and chest.

When police arrived at the house, they found her body slumped by her bed, with her phone dangling nearby.

Bespectacled Dunson was found in the kitchen with the sword hilt against the wall and the edge resting on his chest.

Sentencing the husband, Judge John Reddihough said: “You murdered your wife in the most violent and brutal manner, inflicting many wounds upon her with two separate knives, one of which you left embedded in her body.”
