Landscaping team scoops national award

A landscape design firm saw off almost 100 competitors to win a national award.

J&S Scapes, based in Whit-church, won the award at the National Landscaping Awards 2012 for its design costing between £60,000 and £100,000.

There were 40 categories available for the 93 firms taking part, with an overall national winner to be announced in December.

Jeremy Pugh, founder of the business, pointed to his team’s professionalism as a key reason behind their victory.

He said: “We are more established after winning this award. We are not the cheapest company out there, but the massive thing is quality.

“We really spend some time on doing that.”

The project, for a client in Beaconsfield, took six months for the four-man team to complete, with a target of designing a courtyard which felt as if it was part of the original house.

The project included a new driveway, the housekeeper’s garden and a new stream.

Mr Pugh said a tough winter and a tight deadline made it tricky. However, he was pleased with the final outcome.

“We like coming across as something that stands out from the crowd.”

It is not the first time the landscape firm has celebrated an award in their 20 years of business.

Mr Pugh added: “We have won a few awards over the last seven years but not every year.”

The company also took home a gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show last year.

“We think it’s important. It shows credibility to what we do. It gives the lads some thanks and recognition.”
