Jimmy Savile sex abuse allegations hit 40 mark as three claims made to Thames Valley Police
Three people have reported claims of abuse by the late Sir Jimmy Savile to Thames Valley Police.
Since ITV documentary Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Savile aired on Wednesday night more than 40 women have reported incidents to police forces across the UK.
Thames Valley Police said the claims received are all third party, meaning they were reported on behalf of someone or by a person who knew of an incident. It added the complaints would be passed on to the ACPO Child Protection and Abuse Investigation working group.
Prior to the programme the Metropolitan Police began an investigation on Monday into one claim of rape but has now announced it will be taking the ‘national lead’ on the matter. One of the national claims is believed to be the first male to say he was molested by the children’s TV presenter, when he was a boy aged just 12.
The alleged offences are said to have been committed by Savile between the 1950s and the 1990s.
The documentary followed former detective Mark Williams-Thomas as he interviewed a number of alleged victims and former colleagues of Sir Jimmy’s who claimed to have witnessed or known about the DJ sexually abusing teenage girls.
One of the claims (on the show) against the late Jim’ll Fix It star was that he raped a 15-year-old girl in the 1970s.
Another girl, Sarah, said he kissed her when she was 14 after a choir performance at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
She said: “Before I knew what had happened he’d stuck his tongue into my mouth. It didn’t seem to bother him that other people could have seen what he was doing.”
The Top of the Pops DJ joined the hospital as a volunteer porter in 1969 and helped raise more than £40 million for the spinal unit during his lifetime.
Bucks Healthcare Trust said it was shocked to hear of the allegations and was unaware of any record or reports of inappropriate behaviour during Savile’s work with the trust.
The trust added it would co-operate with any investigation if required.
In the documentary Savile is heard defending convicted paedophile Gary Glitter in 2009. He said: “If you said to that copper, ‘what’s Gary Glitter done wrong?’ well nothing, really. He’s just sat at home watching dodgy films.”
One of the claims alleged that Glitter raped a 13-year-old girl in Savile’s dressing room in the 1970s at the BBC, while the DJ abused a 14-year-old girl.
The BBC said it will assist with investigations as a number of the allegations took place on the corporation’s premises.
