It's time to enjoy your home and garden

We've spent the winter snuggled up under our duvets hibernating and now spring is just around the corner it's time to start turning our attentions to preparing the garden for the heatwave summer that's been predicted.

Dust away those cobwebs from every nook and cranny and inject some life into your home.

BH Homes & Gardens sought inspiration and advice from a plethora of experts and locals, some just may make you think twice about staying in your comfort zones and this year could be the year you decide to try some new ideas.

I love this month's narrowboat feature. A break from conventional living is seen as daring and risky, but Peter and Angela Stephens haven't looked back since they bought a boat to live on. Cruising the canals and living a simple life is a romantic dream to many, and this couple are in no hurry to go back to living in a house.

We also speak to an Italian vegetable grower who likes nothing more than tending to his organic crop on his allotment plot. Healthy fresh vegetables free from supermarket pesticides and preservatives benefits everyone and can provide a rewarding hobby with a little hard graft.

And Keith Robinson decided to enhance his back garden by building a miniature railway. Rather than be an eyesore his garden railway has proved to be a scenic delight for not only his wife but also neighbours, friends and enthusiasts.

Instead of wasting the large amount of space Clico and Gerald Kingsbury had available in their Georgian house, they decided to open up an art gallery for local artists to display their works. The house lends itself beautifully to the artwork and provides a welcoming atmosphere for buyers.

Hopefully some of the advice in BH Homes & Gardens will inspire you to dig out those gardening gloves and feather duster and look at turning your home into an enjoyable retreat.
