It’s the reel deal for new learning
Ice Age 4: Continental Drift will be one of the films on show
The adventures of Ice Age stars Manny, Diego and Sid and Brave’s Princess Merida will educate children at an Aylesbury film festival.
As part of National Schools Film Week, the town’s Odeon cinema will be showing a selection of films that relate directly to elements of the pupils’ studies.
Schools have had a ‘big say’ in choosing the films to be shown, based on what they think will benefit pupils.
After watching the movies, class work can be based around the filmmaking process, particularly art, design and storytelling. There will also be an online library of resources related to individual films and more generic topics that can be used to help teaching.
Karen Collett, headteacher at St Mary’s CofE School, said the benefits of the free screenings included ‘developing social skills, gaining experience of attending the cinema and experience of going on a school outing’.
Festival director Nick Walker said: “The festival seeks to create a greater awareness and understanding of cinema, based on the concept of relationships and dialogues in a variety of films, address issues of cultural exchange and raise awareness amongst teaching professionals of the use of film across the school curriculum.”
