A man has appeared on TV to recount a nightmare ordeal, which has seen his dream home needing 40 repair visits – and he is still hitting problems.
Since Scott Reynolds bought the £249,995 three-bedroom house in Buckingham Park in May 2011 it has needed a new ceiling because of flooding, a new patio andfront step.
The 35 year old appeared on the BBC’s Watchdog programme last week with neighbour Adam Bateman.
Mr Reynolds claims he has since been contacted by other neighbours on the Aylesbury estate complaining about their Taylor Wimpey homes.
Business development manager Mr Reynolds said: “It is disgraceful that they can sell homes in this condition,” after it emerged that shelves he bought cannot be installed because the house walls are not at right angles.
Other problems at Tortoiseshell Road have included brickwork above the front door crumbling, builders running out of sealant around a sink and covering the gap with cardboard, and two floods caused by problems with a boiler and a nail accidentally fired into a radiator pipe.
Mr Reynolds has described £1,500 compensation offered by Taylor Wimpey as ‘insulting’, saying he will not agree a figure until he stops finding problems.
The father of a four-year-old son, who lives in the house with his fiancé, says he decided to go public with the problems – even though it could prevent him from selling it – because he liked the estate and the school.
He said: “I came to the decision because I was sick to death of not getting the responses I wanted, and I will be here for for another 15 years and it should be sorted out by them.”
A Taylor Wimpey spokesman said: “Regrettably, the cases highlighted by Watchdog have clearly not met our high quality standards.
“We apologise to our customers for the problems that they have experienced and would like to stress that these cases represent a very small and unrepresentative sample of the approximately 10,000 homes that we build each year.
“We were already working with each of these customers to rectify the issues identified and are committed to resolving the remaining issues as quickly as possible.”
