GCSE: Waddesdon head teacher describes 'phenomenal' results
WADDESDON Church of England school celebrated 'utterly outstanding' GCSE results last week - and were happy to see their male students buck a worrying national trend.
The school recorded the finest crop of GCSE results in its history with 85% of students gaining five or more A*-C grades and over three-quarters of all students gaining five or more A*-Cs, including English and Mathematics.
Although the gender gap narrowed in this year's GCSE results, girls still outperformed boys across the country. Waddesdon's boys salvaged some pride in the battle of the sexes, however, with six of the school's top performers coming from male ranks.
Waddesdon head teacher, Peter Norman, was delighted with the results. He said: "These results are truly phenomenal. Our students have performer brilliantly. Yet again, the school has shown that students of all abilities can and will achieve great things, given the right balance of support and challenge."
