Erotic audio book is a red hot hit with the Grey generation, says Vale charity

An audio book library has been inundated with requests for erotic smash hit Fifty Shades Of Grey – with the majority of requests coming from women over 70.
Calibre Audio Library in Weston Turville, a charity which provides audio books for people who cannot read print, has now purchased multiple copies of the novel for its 17,000 members nationwide.
Christine Ronaldson, head of literature and audio book production, said their receptionists had taken numerous requests from members for the book, with ‘enquiries coming from everywhere’ within the last week.
Pensioners were reported to be particularly keen on the E L James novel. Mrs Ronaldson said many of their members ‘like a story with a bit of spice’.
“It’s become so mainstream now, having sold more than Harry Potter, the Highway Code, more than anything else in the world.
“Our members are starting to get the vibe as well and they want in on the action.”
Mrs Ronaldson, who says she owns the book but is yet to read it, did not think her members would be shocked by the novel’s contents.
“You would be pleasantly surprised, older ladies are more broad-minded than you might expect. The people who have requested it will have heard enough about it– they know what they’re asking for.”
Calibre Audio Library offers more than 8,500 audio books, making it the second-largest of its kind in the UK.
It caters for people with sight problems, dyslexia and other disabilities.
