Did you see Aylesbury flashmob #2?

Shoppers in Aylesbury High Street were left bemused on Saturday when more than 20 dancers took part in a seemingly spontaneous flashmob dance to songs including Aretha Franklin’s Respect.

It was part of the town’s annual Wear It Pink Day celebration, where shoppers and businesses raise cash for cancer research.

Meanwhile the town centre’s markets team and stallholders have been celebrating after being named runners-up in a national competition to find the most creative ways of attracting shoppers.

Judges were impressed by events such as a

flashmob outside Friars Square and free valuations with BBC Antiques Roadshow expert John Bly. Other highlights included an auction hosted by Middle Claydon’s John Dickens, a summer craft market, street entertainment and live music performances by a silver band and steel drumming duo.

The team was runner-up in the category of Market Team Of The Year in the competition organised by the National Association of British Market Authorities.

Aylesbury Vale District Councillor Brian Roberts, who is in charge of the town centre, said: “The team, led by town centre manager Diana Fawcett, really deserves this award for all the hard work they put into the markets and I’m really pleased that this has been acknowledged.

“They play an important role in events like Love Your Local Market, which brings hundreds of visitors into the town.

“I would also like to thank the market traders and suppliers involved in making these events so resoundingly successful.”
