Detective work pays off after rubbish dumped in villages

Rubbish dumped in Bucks and traced back to Al Dhawand Mohammad of Aylesbury.

Piles of flytipped rubbish were traced back to its owner following a ‘massive amount of detective work’ by officials.

Al Dhawand Mohammad, of Havelock Street, Aylesbury, was fined £2,000 after admitting failing in his duty of care regarding commercial waste dumped illegally in three Bucks villages.

In November 2011, commercial waste, including items connected with garage services, were found dumped at Well Lane, Wing, Reads Lane, Cublington, and Swan’s Way, Swanbourne.

After a painstaking investigation the waste was linked to a vehicle repair yard off College Road North, Aston Clinton.

David Rounding, enforcement officer at Bucks County Council, said it took more than four months to make the connection to Mohammad and gather evidence.

“There was a massive amount of detective work. In the waste we found the name and address of a yard in Wendover which he used to use but hadn’t been there for a number of years.”

But he said there was also an invoice for a firm in Aylesbury which was able to ‘point me in the right direction’.

He said instances of flytipping in Bucks had reduced by more than 60% in the last decade after it was prioritised.

“We have been convicting better than one offender per week for the last three years and that seems to have made a real difference.”

Mohammad was also ordered to pay costs of £2,605 and a victim surcharge of £15, making a total to pay of £4,620.
