Decision delayed on food store by Stoke Mandeville Hospital

An application to build a food store on land by Stoke Mandeville Hospital has been delayed.

The plans will now be debated at a meeting next month because members of the parish council, which objected to the proposal, were not able to attend a discussion of the application at Aylesbury Vale District Council today (Friday).

The proposals include redeveloping the site by Lower Road, where there are currently hospital buildings and a car park, to create a 2,000 square metre store with 112 car parking spaces.

Stoke Mandeville Parish Council objected to the plans on the grounds that the new road configuration will cause traffic congestion, claiming that traffic volumes will double, among other reasons.

Outline planning permission for the plans has already been granted by the district, but today’s meeting was due to
decide on matters relating to appearance, landscaping, layout and scale.

In 2010 an application to build a 3,530 square metre Asda store on the site was refused on the grounds that it would be too big.

It has been recommended that the plans be approved and responsibility delegated to the case officer to resolve outstanding highways issues.
