Death of tragic Aylesbury mum Nicola sparks appeal
Nicola Paine, who died from cancer aged 42
A BEREAVED Aylesbury family is hoping to raise £1,000 in 24 hours in memory of a mum who died from cancer.
The funeral of Nicola Paine, who was just 42 when she died, is being held on Saturday morning in Amersham.
And the family of the mother-of-two are hoping to raise the cash for the Florence Nightingale Hospice ahead of the service.
Nicola’s son, Jay Yerby, told the Herald: “She was in and out of the hospice, they were really, really helpful.
“I think it deserves a lot of recognition.
“It’s a lot of money that we’re hoping to raise, but we think we can do it.”
Paying tribute to his mother, Mr Yerby said: “She was literally fighting until her last breath. I was holding her hand when she died.
“She was lovely.”
Nicola had been diagnosed with bowel cancer two years before she died, and learned 12 months later that the disease had spread to her ovaries.
She was told in May last year that her condition was terminal.
Her son, 22, said: “It was her birthday in August, we were fully aware it was terminal, so we threw her a big party.
“We knew we were saying goodbye.”
She leaves behind son Jay and daughter Liane, 14.
The funeral will be held at 10.45am at Amersham Crematorium.
Nicola’s family has asked mourners not to bring flowers, but instead to make donations to the hospice or to Cancer Research UK.

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 02:54 PMMy own mother died of Cancer four years ago yesterday. Cancer which she had fought for seven years prior to that and, like Nicola, continued to fight until her last breath. So I'd like to extend my sincerest condolences to both Jay and Liane at, what can only be, an extremely sad and tragic time for them; and for all those that knew and loved their mother, Nicola. RIP.
