Deadline looming for Bucks residents entitled to claim back money spent on nursing home care
No Caption ABCDE
People who have been paying for nursing home care may be able to recoup the money they have spent – but the deadline for doing so is fast approaching.
Anyone who has paid for care over an extended period to someone aged 18 or over to help with physical or mental needs caused by a disability, accident or illness could be entitled to a reimbursement under the NHS Continuing Healthcare scheme.
Applications can be made on behalf of people who have died.
The deadline for applications for care between April 1, 2004, and March 31, 2011, is September 30.
To be eligible for the funding, a person’s main care need must relate to health, such as a complex medical condition requiring highly specialised nursing support.
This care could have been provided in a variety of settings, including care homes or an individual’s home.
Application deadlines were introduced this year by the Department of Health for the retrospective assessment of periods of care which have not previously been assessed.
NHS continuing healthcare is free, unlike help from other areas, such as social services, for which a charge may be incurred depending on income and savings.
