Cubitt, pride of Aylesbury, rolled out one more time as Kop Hill Climb looms

Aylesbury’s unique contribution to the motoring world has come out from under wraps for a rare up-close-and-personal appearance.

The ill-fated Cubitt, once famously made in the town, escaped its glass cabinet to taste fresh air at Aylesbury Museum.

Guests gathered to also admire a brace of Aston Martins on show – a dark blue Le Mans and cream coloured Mk 2.

It was all a part of a taster for this month’s Kop Hill Climb at Princes Risborough, at which the Cubitt will actually appear, although it won’t be running.

About 3,000 cars were manufactured at the Cubitt factory in Bicester Road, Aylesbury, between 1919 and 1925 to compete with cheap American imports but the company didn’t sell enough cars to make a profit.

The climb, on September 22 and 23, is already now closed to entrants with just under 400 cars and bikes lined up.

Bucks Herald motoring editor Alan Candy will be driving a 1976 Vauxhall Firenza at the event.
