More than 10,000 unwanted letters relating to a planning application were printed by Aylesbury Vale District Council because of an error.

The council was due to send letters to the 4,379 people who objected to the plan to build 3,000 homes between Weston Turville and Bedgrove.

A ‘technical error’ during the print run meant that around 14,500 letters were printed, at a cost of 2p per side.

The error was discovered before all the letters were posted.

The council previously said that around 5,000 were sent out, 500 more than should have been, resulting in an unwanted postage cost of £155. It has now admitted how many unwanted letters were printed.

The authority apologised for the error.
