Combat the trick or treaters

Families are being told to display posters in their windows if they don’t want to take part in Halloween this year.

Thames Valley Police say its free ‘no trick or treat’ posters are a simple but effective way to help prevent the distress that unexpected callers can cause.

Chief Inspector Colin Seaton said: “There will be additional officers across the area to make sure people who are trick or treating are doing so in a friendly manner and not causing a nuisance.

“I know for some people this time of year can be a bother as your evenings are interrupted with people knocking on your doors for treats.

“ Please be reassured that most of these children or teenagers are just getting involved in the Halloween celebrations and will be friendly.

“If, however, at any point you feel unsafe contact the police.”

Bucks County Councillor Martin Phillips said: “Trick or treating can be lots of fun but it is not an excuse for irresponsible or anti-social behaviour.

“Tricks like throwing flour and eggs, graffiti, or other vandalism can be treated as criminal damage and the police will prosecute anyone found breaking the law.”
