Nearly nine out of 10 cancer patients in Bucks have rated their hospital care as very good or excellent.
Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust said it was ‘proud’ of the findings from the nationwide survey by the Department for Health.
Patients were asked a total of 70 questions about their care, with Bucks receiving average or good marks for the vast majority when compared to other trusts across the country.
Bucks ranked in the top 20% of trusts for giving understandable answers to important questions most of the time (83%), always given enough privacy when discussing treatment (83%) and doctors always having the right notes with them (97%) .
However, 23% of respondents in Bucks felt they were not always treated with dignity and respect by staff, ranking it in the bottom 20% of trusts.
A total of 462 questionnaires were completed by cancer patients in Bucks for the survey.
Lynne Swiatczak, chief nurse and director of patient care standards at the trust, said: “We are extremely proud that the recent cancer patient survey highlights that Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has made a significant improvement on last year’s survey and that we are also the top rated cancer unit in the Thames Valley Cancer Network.
“The survey highlighted the invaluable support our clinical nurse specialists offer to patients and their families alongside our multidisciplinary teams.
“We have also made improvements to the information we provide about our services and treatment which has been recognised.
“Over the coming weeks we will be looking into the detail of the results to ensure we address areas where further improvements can be made.”
