Bus timetable changes in Butlers Cross criticised
PEOPLE in Butlers Cross have criticised the new bus timetables – claiming the plans will make the elderly ‘social prisoners’.
From Sunday buses will run from Aylesbury to Wycombe, via Princes Risborough, every 15 minutes along the A4101.
The changes will result in fewer buses in Butlers Cross at peak times.
Passenger Henry Winson, 84, asked: “All the people that don’t have cars, how are they going to get to the shops and the new theatre?
“The railway don’t run all their trains from Euston to Glasgow none stop, because they will lose passengers that way – they stop along the way.”
Mr Winson claims that by missing Butlers Cross the service will lose up to 400 potential customers.He has called for the new route to ‘alternate’ so some of the buses stop in the village.
Resident Elizabeth Hine said: “There are many elderly folk living in Butlers Cross including a whole development of bungalows built especially for them who will from February 5 be social prisoners, unable to get to the shops, visit their doctor, pharmacy or the post office.”
In response, a spokesman for bus operator Arriva said: “The changes are designed to improve reliability and punctuality.
“We are also improving the number of buses per hour to Stoke Mandeville hospital which is great news for patients, visitors and staff.
“The 300 service is also increasing in frequency on weekdays so there are up to four buses per hour.
“We have also improved the timetable to offer a more reliable service. Regrettably this has meant that only some peak journeys will serve Butlers Cross.”

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 05:20 PMChelsealyn, what they want to do is only run buses when they can fill them ie peak times, the rest of the time is loss making so they would prefer everyone to use a car as this would bring in more tax. There is a lot of preaching about using public transport but no incentives to do so. Its not cheaper, more convenient, comfortable or available most of the time.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 02:00 PMI had to get the bus into town one day froim the village where I lived. It was the middle of winter and there was no heating . Thank goodness the journey was only 25 minutes any longer and I would have frozen to the seat. If they want more people to use public transport they need to make it easier to do so. Changing bus routes and times is hardly helping passengers.

I travel early in the morning and there is never any heating on this bus which is okay during normal weather conditions but not when we're facing the temperatures we've experienced over the last week. Does any reader know the collective noun for a huddled group of freezing passengers?
