BREAKING NEWS: ASDA site plan approved for Stoke Mandeville

The design of a food store next to Stoke Mandeville Hospital has been approved in the past few minutes.

Plans include redeveloping the site by Lower Road, where there are currently hospital buildings and a car park, to create a 2,000 sq metre store with 112 car parking spaces.

Outline planning permission had already been granted by Aylesbury Vale District Council.

Today’s meeting was to
decide on matters relating to appearance, landscaping, layout and scale.

In 2010 an application to build a 3,530 sq metre ASDA store on the site was refused on the grounds that it would be too big.

Stoke Mandeville Parish Council objected to the latest plans on the grounds that the new road configuration will cause traffic congestion, claiming that volumes will double, among other reasons.

Bucks Herald reporter Marcus Chippindale broke the news from the meeting via Twitter.
