Best baa none: Aylesbury policeman breaks world record time for running half-marathon dressed as an animal

An Aylesbury policeman is set to enter the Guinness Book of Records after completing the Great North Run in barmy style.
Richard Bazeley, 30, ran the race in a time of one hour, 37 minutes and eight seconds dressed head to toe as a lamb, smashing the previous record held by an emu by nearly 18 minutes and becoming the fastest person to complete a half marathon dressed as an animal.
Richard, who was an Olympic torchbearer earlier this summer, said: “The costume had a hood on and it was like running with a soft toy on my head. Early in the race it got really hot and I was worried about overheating but thankfully it started raining at the right time which helped cool me down.”
Olympic and Paralympic heroes were on hand to lend their support to the runners, including Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford, and Richard even managed to get a high five off Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds who won four medals in the Aquatics Centre.
“The crowd were cheering all the way shouting ‘go on sheep’.”
Richard ran to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, a charity that is dear to his heart after seeing both his mother and mother-in-law survive the illness.
“I realised there was nothing I could have done to save them if it were not for the medical help they received.”
His target of £500 has nearly been reached but the fundraising isn’t stopping there for Richard and later this month he’ll be conquering a skydive to raise money for Brain Tumour UK.
