Aylesbury praised, but warned about litter and graffiti

Aylesbury has won a prestigious silver gilt award for its attractiveness and flower decorations, but also been warned about litter and graffiti.
Judges from the Thames and Chilterns in Bloom Association praised Aylesbury’s grass and shrub displays between ring roads, Bedgrove Park and its Riverside Walk.
However concerns were raised about rubbish on the day of judging and the graffiti at Coronation Villas.
The town, which achieved a silver gilt last year, also won a regional award for having the best floral display and Aylesbury Town Council was praised for its enthusiasm for the competition.
Alan Norchi, from the authority, said: “The council intends to continue the hard work, in co-operation with partner organisations, of making Aylesbury an attractive place to live, and to visit.

“The gold award is achievable for Aylesbury and the town council will be working with volunteers throughout the year to enhance the town centre, and the residential areas on its border.”
Judges visited all the entrants in July and awarded marks for all-round achievement, conservation efforts and the year-round activities to keep the place smart after they have left.
A silver gilt is the second highest award after a gold.
Cuddington won a silver in the village category.
