Aylesbury gearing up for big bike event
Fern Britton will be saddling up to take on the 35 mile route of the Chilterns Cycle Challenge based in Aylesbury on Sunday, March 24.
The event, which starts and finishes in Aylesbury, is held every year to raise money for local hospice charity, Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care (IRGH).
Fern, who is a staunch supporter of IRGH, took part in the 10 km route when the Challenge was launched two years ago and is delighted to be part of the event once again in 2013.
She said: “I really enjoyed taking part in the Chilterns Cycle Challenge two years ago. There was a great atmosphere as over 400 people came together to enjoy a cycle ride through the beautiful Chilterns countryside and I am looking forward to taking on the more challenging 35 mile route this year.
“Giving those diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illness the choice to be cared for at home is such a precious gift and I do hope that local people will dust off their bikes and come and join me to raise money to allow patients in the local community to continue to have this choice and benefit from the superb care that IRGH provides.”
The Chilterns Cycle Challenge offers a choice of a 10 km, 35 mile or 75 mile route so all ages and abilities can participate. All routes start and finish in Kingsbury, with staggered start times during the morning.
Registration for the event is open now and costs £15 for adults and £7.50 for children from 5 to 16, with free entry for the under 5s.
The entry price includes a T-shirt, medal and refreshments along the way and all participants are also asked to fundraise to support the charity. One hundred pounds pays for five one hour visits to patients’ homes and can make a real difference to local patients and their families. To join Fern on Sunday March 24 register at www.rennieway.org or call the fundraising team on 01442 820740.
