Apprentices to give the inside track at Work Wise Week
Apprentices in action at County Hall - Emma Page and Tonny Kagaba
Some of the 33 apprentices working for Bucks County Council will show youngsters the benefits of the scheme on Wednesday.
Around 12 young people will spend the day with the council as part of Work Wise Week.
Council leader Martin Tett encourages Buckinghamshire businesses to harness new talent through apprenticeship schemes – saying employers will benefit from young people’s skills and enthusiasm, and it will invest in the local economy.
He said: “The apprenticeship scheme gives young people the chance to gain real employment experience, obtain some real training and have real support towards a nationally recognised qualification.”
Other sessions the council is contributing to during Work Wise Week include a workshop on preparing for interviews, an IT skills assessment, sessions on setting-up a business and using the new Universal Jobmatch search system.
Mike Appleyard, deputy leader and cabinet member for education, said it was ‘important to support Work Wise Week to inspire young people to explore opportunities in the workplace and find out what skills they’ll need’.
The County Council is one of nine partners contributing to the week, which is an annual event drawing business and the community together.
