2,120 jobseekers in the Vale says report
NEW figures have revealed that the number of people claiming jobseekers allowance shot up by more than 300 across Bucks in January.
But the number of job vacancies in the Vale have also gone up, with a 503 rise compared to the month before.
According to figures released by Buckinghamshire Business First, an economic pressure group, last month 2,120 people in the Vale claimed jobseekers allowance – 1.9 per cent of the working age population.
The Vale is ranked 43rd best of 380 authorities on the number of claimants.
The news comes in a week when Bucks Business First chief executive called for plans for a controversial incinerator near Calvert to be approved.
Stuart Jones told planners that the plant would be one of the Vale’s biggest employers, and said it could bring new business to the area. But planners put the application for the 300,000-tonne-a-year facility in Greatmoor Farm on hold until later in the year, saying the need for it had not been proved.
