A consultation has begun on plans to cut opening hours at libraries across Bucks.

The library service needs to save £270,000 and proposals to reduce opening hours by between five and a half and eight and a half hours a week have been tabled in an effort to help cut costs.

Cabinet member for community engagement Martin Phillips said: “The proposed revised opening hours will more closely match the times when most people use them.

“We are under enormous pressure from reduced government revenue support, and we have to balance people’s needs with the way we spend their taxes.

“We are committed to delivering an efficient service and I know that if the new hours are informed by the views of our customers, then we’ll be able to ensure value for money.

“These are challenging times, yet our commitment remains as strong as ever to continue developing our libraries as active hubs in their communities,”
