Late night ban for news pubs and clubs in Aylesbury proposed
New pubs and clubs in the town centre will have to stop serving at midnight under proposals being considered by a council.
The move is intended to reduce the level of alcohol related crime and violence in the town centre after nightfall and to encourage a diversification of Aylesbury's night time attractions.
If the proposal goes through new premises designated as 'high risk' will have to be closed by 12.30am.
The term high risk is applicable to places which have the sale of alcohol as their predominant trade, ie pubs and clubs.
The ban will also cover late night takeaways and fast food joints.
The regulations will not affect existing establishments or new restaurants, where alcohol is not their main product.
Peter Seal, Licensing Services Manager for Aylesbury Vale District Council, said: "The idea of this policy is to reduce crime and disorder.
"We sat down with the police and asked them how to make the town a safer place.
"We wrote to the owners of premises right across the Vale of Aylesbury and generally got a good response."
The policy goes before the council on December 1, if successful, it will come into action from January 2011.
