Lamp post downed after Elmhurst Road crash

A lamp post was knocked down after a motorist hit it head on at the weekend.

No-one is believed to have been hurt in the incident, which took place near the Dairy Maid pub on the opposite side of the road at around 3pm on Saturday.

A people carrier hit the lamp post head on and was spun sideways obstructing that entire side of the road. Residents came out of their houses to help the driver, who was very shaken but did not appear injured.

As a result of the incident there were large tailbacks stretching the length of the Elmhurst Road, taking up to 20 minutes to travel around 200 yards along the busy road.

Police swiftly arrived at the scene to control traffic flow and the car and lamp post were cleared later that afternoon.
